DWARVEN ECONOMIES

Tarushed or Mountain dwarves tend to utilize materials from the fungal forests that grow underground, fed by volcanic nutrients. A popular cloth for everyday and work attire is woven or felted strong dried fiber from the trunks of mushroom trees. Leather from subterranean beasts is rarely available and along with imported surface cloth such as linen, cotton, satin, silk or wool, tends to be a prerogative of the wealthy or titled. The standard of dress for Mountain realms is very modest, covered up and rather decorative, probably due in part to the low temperatures underground, especially near the surface. Mountain dwarves quarry stone and mine minerals, smelt metal and cut gems. They use and export stone for building, metals, gems and other minerals, and manufactured tools, weapons, armor, eating and drinking vessels and utensils, and other items made from mineral resources. Materials made from forest fungi tend not to export well, except to other dwarves. Their monetary system consists of truncated-triangular coins made from various metals, forming different denominations.

The Nomez, Gnomes or Forest Dwarves are descendants of refugees from the Fall of Kheled Tarmorashum that settled in the northern part of Callannyn Forest. They have replaced stone and metal crafts with woodcraft and leathercraft, and are superior carpenters, making homes and villages, armor and weapons of timber and cured hides, while preserving the forest with assiduous care in tree or food-animal selection and the growing and replanting of saplings along with careful wildlife stewardship. Unlike the Woodelves, which tend to build homes and villages above ground in the trees, the Gnomes build on the ground among the trees, without clearing the forest and sometimes build underground in hillsides. They also grow food on small farms in sunlit areas of the forest and raise some livestock, as well as hunt for meat. Gnomes tend to wear tooled leather and dyed or painted cloth woven from forest fibers such as birch or mulberry bark. Gnomes have some trade with the wood elves, but tend not to trade with folk outside their forest. They operate strictly on barter.
