• Vorryn Dwarves - Northern hemisphere continent of Vorryn - ranges from 35 North to 70 North

  • Copper Dwarves - Resemble people of Europe, especially Celts. Hair tends toward hues of red from deep auburn to reddish blond, though ashtones are not uncommon. Skin tends to range from golden rose to pale pink. Inhabit Southern and Western regions of the continent of Vorryn​

  • Gnomes / Forest Dwarves - Northern section of Callannyn Forest, mentioned in The Dwarven Prince.

  • Iron Dwarves - Resemble people of Mongolia and Tibet, but heavily bearded like Caucasians with skin ranging from gray to white without any yellowish tinge. Hair is deep gray-ash to black color. Inhabit the Eastern and Northern Mountains and plains of Vorryn.​ A visiting embassy of Iron dwarves in noted in The Dwarven Prince.

  • Silver Dwarves - Live in ice mountains in the far north of Vorryn - pale and hair pale to platinum ash.

The Dwarves of Arallyn are one of the races of the Fae, created during the Morning Bliss of Arallyn, when the plane of the living and that of spirits and Gods were seamlessly united, before the Sundering that broke this union. The Dwarves differed from other Fae in their devotion to earth (stone and metal), fire and crafting with those elements. They took stewardship of the subterranean world and its living things, taking the form of short, heavily built, hairy upright bipeds, and thereafter they cherished the underworld and nurtured the underground biosphere, living in a close mutualistic symbiosis with it. Different sub-races of Dwarves dwell in various lands on various continents but as a rule, tend to live underground or partially so, in delved out cities under mountains, sometimes spilling into an extended town on the outdoor slopes. Some are known to dwell on or near the surface on plains, steppes or plateaus and do near surface or open-pit mining. The gnomes are one exception, living in pristine forests and building and crafting with wood and natural stone, without smelting or metal-craft.

 

The Dwarves of Arallyn have an average height of 55 inches or 140 centimeters with females being slightly shorter than males. They tend to be heavy-boned and thickly built and if sedentary are prone to be chubby. Their primary features include rounded or squarish faces, strong brow ridges, cheekbones and jaws, largish rounded noses, horizontal eyes with thick brows, and fullish lips, not to mention a propensity to overall hairiness and the tendency to grow thick head-hair that does not easily bald, and rather large, thick beards. Females grow facial hair too, but it remains somewhat thin until they are middle-aged. All varieties of hair and eye color are found, though among the Copper Dwarves of Vorryn, hair in shades of red from darkest auburn to reddish blond are most common, as are silver, steel, green, gray or blue eyes. The Iron Dwarves of the east typically have black or deep ash-brown hair, dark brown eyes, and Asiatic features similar to Mongolians or Tibetans. The Silver Dwarves of the Icy North Are exceedingly pale of skin with hair ranging from light to platinum ash and eyes primarily pale silver to ice-blue in color. These northern dwarves certainly delve in mountains, but are known to build with ice as well, or delve into permanent non-glaciating ice. Dwarves live to be about 300 years old at most, a reduced lifespan from 500 before the sundering. Dwarves live on the other continents as well and more will be shared when storylines take us there. Gnomes or Woodland Dwarves are taller in stature than mountain dwarves by around 4-6 inches (10-15 centimeters) and are not as thickly built, though very strong and muscular and less prone to be overweight. Their skin, hair and eye coloration is much the same as their mountain kin but more prone to shades of ash than red.​
